Local family working to bring program for battle-scarred soldiers to Citrus

Jason Bucy always has his mission in sight.

In the late ‘90s and early 2000s, it was safeguarding his native state of Indiana as a National Guardsman, and maintaining U.S. Army Blackhawk helicopters at the Song Nam Air Base in South Korea.

A Place to Heal - Soldiers find Freedom Outdoors

MELROSE - After four deployments in both the Afghanistan and Iraqi wars against terror, Patrick Ferguson returned to the U.S. injured and needing two hearing aids, but most of all, he felt like he didn’t fit in anywhere anymore. However, he could not tell he was hurting.

CAMP FREEDOM TO OFFER RESPITE FOR FEMALE VETERANS

Daniel DiMarco wanted to give back to soldiers and veterans, so for the last five years he’s organized an outdoor retreat called Camp Freedom for them to relax and unwind.
At the camp, soldiers can hunt, fish, go horseback riding, trail walking, biking and swimming for four days. They can also just sit on the porch and relax, DiMarco said.
