Equine Therapy

  • Soldiers Freedom Outdoors 4342 SE 8th Avenue Melrose FL 32666 United States (map)

Equine Therapy is a form of green therapy that involves interactions between veterans and horses. Therapeutic horse activities are a very effective treatment for Veterans and active duty military with Post Traumatic Stress who avoid “talk” therapy because their memories are too painful. This struggle with human interaction is where our horses for heroes are very helpful. Simple grooming, feeding and putting a halter on an animal can be absolutely transforming to a vet. The benefits are numerous; empowerment, social interaction, responsibility, improved self-image, trust, decision-making, patience, enjoyment are just a few benefits our heroes may receive from time spent with their horse. With 350 acres immediately accessible, we offer an endless variety of riding terrain for those who choose to ride.

We encourage our equine participants to bond with their horse. This may include grooming, massaging, bathing and cleaning, walking with a lead rope, hanging out with the horse in the pasture or simply spending time together. By spending time with their horse, they become aware of the horses signals and habits. Horses pick up on body language so they become a mirror to their master and help the participant learn to be authentic emotionally. It's been said, "There is something about the outside of horse that's good for the inside of a man." Come and experience the joy of horsemanship.
